Ben Stokes has something about him.

Something in the way he moves
Attracts me like no other cricketer
Something in the way he woos me

I don’t want to leave his innings now
You know I believe and how

Somewhere in his smile he knows
That I don’t need no other cricketer
Something in his style that shows me

Don’t want to leave his deliveries now
You know I believe and how

You’re asking me will my love grow
I don’t know, I don’t know
If he sticks around now it may show
I don’t know, I don’t know

Something in the way he knows
And all I have to do is think of him batting
Something in the shots he shows us

Don’t want to leave his innings now
You know I believe and how.

Capitulation is painless

Through early morning fog I see,
Visions of the series to be,
The pains that aren’t withheld for me,
I realize and I can see…

That capitulation is painless.
It brings on many changes.
And England can’t knick or leave it if they please.

The game of cricket is hard to play,
They’re gonna lose it anyway.
The losing card they’ll someday lay,
So this is all I have to say.

The bowling of Johnson will pierce our skins.
It doesn’t hurt when it begins.
But as it works its way on in,
The pain grows stronger…watch it grin, but…

A brave man once requested me,
to answer questions that are key.
Is it to bat or not to bat at three?
And I replied ‘Oh why ask me?’

That capitulation is painless.
It brings on many changes.
And England can’t knick or leave it if they please.

Thoughts on Mandela and Mugabe

Rightly Stewart and a number of people are proud to have met Nelson Mandela.

It must make up for having to meet and be genial to monsters in the course of doing their job.

Less of a proud moment unfortunately

A mark of how brilliantly Mandela and the other fighters against Apartheid did suceed not only in bringing down that regime, but also of how South Africa has done in comparison to Zimbabwe. South Africa has faults and problems like any other country, some of them very big indeed. But Mandela aimed to lead a whole country and that South Africa in 1994 did not end up like Rwanda in 1994 is no small feat.

The world is sad to see Mandela go and thankful for all that he did. The opposite is true of Robert Mugabe.

Heroes

I, I will be KP
And you, you will be Broad
Though nothing will drive the Aussies away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be Heroes, just for one day

And you, you can be mean
And I, I’ll drink all the time (in this bar)
‘Cause we’re teammates, and that is a fact
Yes we’re teammates, and that is that

We could be teammates just for one more drink…

Though the Aussie press, won’t keep us together
We could steal time,
just for one more drink
We can be Heroes, for ever and ever
What d’you say?

I, I wish you could switch hit
Like the Dehli Daredevils, like Dehli can switch-hit
Though nothing,
nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be Heroes,
just for one day

I, I will be KP
And you, you will be Broad
Though nothing will drive Harris away
We can be Heroes, just for one drink
We can be us, just for one more drink

I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the bouncers shot above our heads
(over our heads)
And we punched gloves,
as though nothing could fall
(nothing could fall)
And the shame was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be Heroes,
just for one day

We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
We can be Heroes
Just for one drink
We can be Heroes

We’re nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we’re lying,
then you better not stay
But we could be safer,
just for one drink

Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh-ohh,
just for one more drink.
